Two-way integration with Workday and Azure Active Directory

Published on: July 19, 2017

In May 2015, Microsoft announced the ability for Workday users to sign into the service using Azure Active Directory credentials. This allowed Workday to take advantage of all the benefits that Azure Active Directory provides around user assignment, two-factor authentication, audit tracking and much more.

On May 31 this year, Microsoft and Workday announced automatic user provisioning with on-premises Active Directory and Azure Active Directory. This scenario is extremely useful for onboarding new employees and syncing updates from Workday (such as their name, title or manager) with Active Directory.

The updates are only one-way from Workday to Active Directory for profile information, except the provisioned email address which is written back to Workday from Active Directory. Typically, Workday will be the system of record for profile information such as job title, department and manager. However, there will be information, other than the e-mail address, where Active Directory and other systems will be the system of record.

Hyperfish User Profile Page

To tackle outdated or incorrect profile information, some organizations make a self-service tool available to employees that can be pushed back to Active directory, Workday or another system of record. Hyperfish can not only provide a single pane of glass to update all profile information, but it can also help maintain the compliance of this information to organizational standards.

As well as employees being proactive and updating their profile information, Hyperfish continually monitors in real-time all employees profile information. It will proactively engage with employees that have missing or non-compliant profile information. Hyperfish administrators can configure the validation rules to be applied to profile information and even define collections of users to capture specific information from.
